“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” ― George Bernard Shaw. A 2022 SPIE survey of top optics and photonics companies reported that professional communication skills are severely lacking in their employees, job candidates and new hires. Effective communication is essential for everything from formal, in-person presentations to participation in virtual meetings, as well as for project reports and interoffice emails. Stand out from the crowd by polishing these often overlooked skills through this workshop with powerhouse speakers, 2022 SPIE President, Dr. Anita Mahadevan-Jansen, 2023 Vice President, Dr. Peter de Groot, and Senior Associate Dean at Vanderbilt University, Dr. E. Duco Jansen.

We will explore:

• In-person presentations • Online presence • Cross-cultural communication • Multidisciplinary teams • Communication across seniority levels • And more!

Panelists include
• Dr. Anita Mahadevan‐Jansen, Professor, Vanderbilt University and 2022 SPIE President
• Dr. E. Duco Jansen, Professor and Senior Associate Dean, Vanderbilt University
• Dr. Peter de Groot, Chief Scientist, Zygo Corporation and 2023 Vice President of SPIE
