Graduated in Physics, University of Porto (June 1987).
Stayed at the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, University of Glasgow where, under the direction of Prof. R.M. De La Rue, worked on optical modulators in LiNbO3
Stayed at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, under the supervision of Dr. James Wilkinson, working on waveguide optical amplifiers and lasers.
PhD degree from University of Porto in May 1998.
Auxiliar Professor at the University of Porto since May 1998.
Auxiliar Professor at the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro since October 1998
Associate Professor at the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro since July 2000
Head of Department, Physics Dept. University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro from June 2003 to June 2005.
Presently working in the field of waveguide lasers and optical amplifiers in rare-earth and transition metal doped lithium niobate and in integrated optic biosensors.
