Profile Summary

Gonzalo Otón is a Project Officer at the European Commission, Joint Research Center (JRC). He has a Ph.D. in Geographic Information Technologies (TIG) from the University of Alcala. He has been a researcher at the University of Alcalá (Spain), of the ESA project Fire_cci, and other European Projects (Copernicus and Multiply). He has a Bachelor in Environmental Science and a Master in Geographic Information Technologies.

Gonzalo is currently conducting research in the area of remote sensing, with a specific emphasis on its applications within the forestry domain. He has developed and analyzed burned area algorithms. He worked on the creation of BA products, such as: FireCCILT11 and FireCCI51. Those databases are the greatest source of information available to study the dynamics of the occurrence of fire on a global scale.
