SPIE Member Valentin P. Gapontsev, chief executive officer with IPG Photonics Corporation, has been awarded the Laser Institute of America's (LIA) 2009 Arthur L. Schawlow award.
Gapontsev has authored numerous papers presented at SPIE Photonics West.
Founded by Gapontsev in 1990 as a small optics company in the Soviet Union, IPG Photonics has become a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance fiber lasers and amplifiers for diverse applications and markets.
