Dr. Sivanandan Harilal

Dr. Harilal received Ph.D. in plasma physics from Cochin University of Science & Technology, India in 1998. In the same year Dr. Harilal won prestigious Alexander Humboldt Fellowship to pursue postdoctoral research at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. During 2001-2006, he worked as a scientist at University of California San Diego and extensively involved in laser-plasma and laser-matter research. Before joining PNNL, he was a member of fusion group at Argonne National Laboratory, IL and associate professor at Purdue University, IN. He was a recipient of Paul C. Zmola Faculty Scholar of Nuclear Engineering Award in 2010. Dr. Harilal held Science Foundation of Ireland visiting fellow position at University College Dublin during 2007-2010. He has authored or co-authored over 170 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in laser-plasma, plasma diagnostics, plasma-facing components, plasma applications and surface science. He is a fellow of OSA and senior member of SPIE and IEEE. His research interests include plasma sources, laser produced plasma and applications, plasma diagnostics, laser spectroscopy and remote sensing.
