Profile Summary

Hamed Abbasi is currently a research assistant/ Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Laser and Optics Group (BLOG) at the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the University of Basel, Switzerland. He studied B.Sc. in Engineering Physics (Laser and Optics) at Plasma-Physics Research Center, Tehran, where he focused on atmospheric pressure plasma, laser ablation, moiré deflectometry, and holography. The university selected him as an elite B.Sc. student. Also, he won a prize from Alborz Regional Festival of Inventions and has been selected as a member of Iran's National Elites Foundation (INEF). Afterward, he studied M.Sc. in Photonics at the University of Kashan with an emphasis on laser spectroscopy (Fluorescence, LIBS, Raman), hyperspectral imaging, and developing tunable lasers. Faculty of Physics selected him as the best master student researcher of the year. He also worked in THz and Laser Spectroscopy Lab. of the University of Kashan as a research assistant, and taught dispensing opticians in ACECR (Sharif University of Technology Branch). Finally, after working in the R&D department of Optical Physics Technologist Co. (OPTC), Kashan, as an optical system designer and developer, he started his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. He is currently working on miniaturized optical feedback sensors for smart laserosteotomy under the MIRACLE (short for Minimally Invasive Robot-Assisted Computer-guided LaserosteotomE) project. To do so, he has developed a high-throughput Echelle spectrometer and delivered a high power laser through a highly flexible fiber utilizing beam shaping technique. He is also interested in signal processing, machine learning, and data analysis.
