Profile Summary

Andrew Bodkin has over 35 years experience with mechanical, optical and electro-optic system design. Prior to founding Bodkin Design and Engineering, Mr. Bodkin was system engineer for LMIRIS and worked on the prototype build and debug of THAAD missile system. This defense weapon system used a MCT infrared array to hone in and hit nose to nose an incoming missile at supersonic speeds. Prior to that he was a Senior Engineer at Textron Defense Systems Sensors Technology Department. There he built numerous visible and infrared diagnostic instruments. Much of his work was dedicated to airborne imaging. He developed an ultra-light, line of sight scanner for use on a cannon launched air-frame. This R&D resulted in a working prototype that used very light holographic optics.

Mr. Bodkin holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics cum laude from Amherst College, and a Master's degree from Tufts University Electro-Optic Technology Center, and he has studied business administration at Fairfield University. He has been the president of the Track Specialties Company, a privately owned railroad equipment company, President of the Microcam Corporation, Executive vice president of Ion-Optics Inc., and is currently Principal of Bodkin Design and Engineering, LLC. He holds patents for automated rail car handling equipment, ultra light infrared cameras, optical gas analyzers, narrow band infrared sources, imaging spectrographs, LED source optics, IR zoom lenses, spatial heterodyne spectrometers, and snowboard airtime sensing equipment.

His current research areas include UAV borne hyperspectral imaging for crop management, blood spectroscopy for disease management, lasers for manufacturing, and special purpose optics for illumination.
