SPIE and CLP publish inaugural issue of Photonics Insights

BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA – Photonics Insights, a new Diamond Open Access journal co-published by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, and Chinese Laser Press (CLP), has published its inaugural issue.

Photonics Insights, an all-review, invite-only journal is available online in the SPIE Digital Library, as well as on CLP's Researching platform. Each quarterly issue consists of review articles that present and evaluate recent advances in core subjects of photonics — from laser optics, quantum optics, and nonlinear optics, to optical communications and nanophotonics — discussing key challenges, potential applications, and future directions for research. The first issue features additional commentaries highlighting important aspects of the reviews.

The journal’s co-editors-in-chief are Fudan University's Lei Zhou and City University of Hong Kong's Din Ping Tsai. In addition, 12 leading scientists from six countries have joined the Photonics Insights editorial team.

In their inaugural editorial, Zhou and Tsai invite the community to build the journal as a platform “to share our insights, thoughts, and knowledge on cutting-edge research in optics and photonics.” The publication aims to provide readers with access to “the frontiers in optics and photonics,” as a valuable educational resource for optics and photonics students and instructors.

“We’re pleased to offer this latest co-published journal with our partners at Chinese Laser Press,” said SPIE Journals Manager Gwen Weerts. “Photonics Insights is a review journal with a unique Diamond Open Access publishing model, which should be attractive to both authors and readers. I believe it will complement SPIE’s existing portfolio of peer-reviewed journals.”

The SPIE Digital Library, the world's largest collection of optics and photonics applied research, comprises more than 565,000 publications.
