Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus to hold first event, discuss workforce development challenges

SPIE encourages all of our members and constituents to participate in the upcoming virtual event
18 October 2021

The Congressional Optics & Photonics (O&P) Caucus will hold its first policy discussion on 27 October, 2021, at 12 p.m. ET to discuss workforce development challenges in the O&P industry.

O&P companies, both large and small, have dealt with hiring shortages for skilled technicians for years and this challenge has only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing workforce shortages in this rapidly growing industry responsible for technologies like displays, fiber optics, lasers, sensors, and quantum systems is critical to maintaining US leadership in this innovative, global industry.

The O&P Caucus is pleased to present a discussion on this issue and welcomes industry participation. O&P experts will share insights on the challenges, strategies, successes, and areas for federal engagement to help address our nation's workforce shortages. Details on the event are below.
