In my career, I have sold and marketed optical materials, components, and systems throughout the world.
What I find exciting.
It is so exciting to meet new people in the optics industry and help them solve some of the world's most important problems. People in this field work on interesting, cutting-edge technologies in the most creative ways! It is great to experience it first hand and be part of the process. Light is used in so many ways, in applications both new and old. You just can't stand still in this industry, because it is always changing. There is always a new and exciting challenge to work on!
What I wish someone had told me.
My advice to someone just entering this field would be to never hold back. If you have a question that needs answering, don't hesitate to reach out to anyone that may be helpful, no matter how eminent they may be. You will be very pleasantly surprised at how generous even the leading researchers will be with their time.
