Biography

Irina L. Vinogradova received her Candidate of Science (PhD) degree (2000) and Doctor of Science degree (2009) from the Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU). Her doctoral thesis was focused on the applications of mathematical modeling for researches in optics. Since 2003 she has been working as lecturer and leading scientist at the Dept. of Telecommunication Systems of the USATU. Her research group presently works on the project directed towards advancing RoF-based broadband access technology and funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation and industrial partners. Author and co-author of over 90 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings, 4 monographs and 10 patents.

Lecture Title(s)

Development and Maintenance of All-Optical Communications

Development of modern telecom moves towards application of optical signal transmission and processing at all the levels and segments of networks. Therefore, investigation and study of technologies for all-optical networking becomes important to keep pace with current customers demands for information transmission services.

Brief contents of the lecture:

Technical concepts of all-optical networking.

Architecture and operational principles of the passive optical networks (PON) and all-optical networks (AON).

Passive and active components and signal conversion devices for PON.

Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) communications as a special case of PON.

Features of optical signal transmission in the RoF systems.

Principles of wideband and ultra-wideband radio signal generation in the optical segment of the RoF systems.

WDM networks: architecture, hierarchical structures, routing and VLAN-WDM deployment.

Problem of all-optical signal format conversion and principles of AON managing at the data link and network layers.

Principles of long-haul segments deployment using techniques of dispersion management, interferometric positive chirping, and quasi-soliton transmission assisted by EDFA and high-nonlinear fibers.

Specifics of testing, monitoring and putting into operation of AON. Modeling of the signal transmitting and receiving in the multichannel AON.
