Dr. Manish Tiwari received B. E. in E&TC, M. Tech. in ECE with specialization in VLSI Design and Ph.D. in ECE in the field of Photonics. Presently, he is Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering in Manipal University, Jaipur. He has more than 18 years of teaching and industrial experience. He has published and reported more than 100 papers in various International Journals and National & International Conferences on Electronics Systems, Optoelectronics and Photonics and VLSI Design. He is coauthor of three books on Microelectronics, Logic Synthesis and VLSI Design and contributed to "Fundamental Glossary on Electronics" and "Fundamental Glossary on Broadcasting" published by CSTT, MHRD, New Delhi. He was visiting researcher to City University, London under UKIERI (India-UK joint research programme) project in Microstructured Optical Fibers during 2010 and 2011. Dr. Tiwari has presented talk in Hong Kong Polytechnic University-Hong Kong, King Mongkut's University of Technology-North Bangkok, Kasetsart University-Bangkok, City University- London and several UKIERI workshops. He has also served on panel of experts in various workshops by CSTT, MHRD, Govt. of India. He has supervised more than 30 projects sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Rajasthan, India. Dr. Tiwari is also a Fellow of Optical Society of India, Fellow of IETE, Senior Member of IEEE, IEEE Photonics Society and Member of SPIE, OSA. He is serving as reviewer in Journals by IEEE, OSA, Taylor and Francis and many OSA, SPIE international conferences. His current research interest includes Micro/Nano-structure photonic devices, nonlinear optics, photonic crystal fibers, optical antennas, solar cells and nanophotonics. Dr. Tiwari has presented keynote talks, invited talks in several international and national conferences. He has also organized several international and national conferences as Conference chair, convener, member of organizing committee, advisory committee and technical program committee.

Lecture Title(s)

  • Nonlinear optics in Photonic Crystal Fibers: Nonlinear optics is the study of the nonlinear effects associated with the propagation of light through matter. The field of nonlinear optics is becoming one of the most important areas of scientific research. This talk will allow the students to see all the manifestations of the light-matter interaction as part of the unified whole. The simple equations both to gain a better understanding of the physical processes involved and to deal with the practical applications. Specific topics include: the notion of the nonlinear refractive index and self-phase modulation, the propagation and use of nonlinear waves and solitons in optical fibers and waveguides, two-and-three lasers, optical bistability, the interaction of co- and counter-propagating beams, stimulated Raman and Brillouin scattering, and self-induced transparency. The final chapter discusses mathematical and computational methods such as multiple time scaling, linear and nonlinear wave propagation, solitons, numerical methods, and useful software packages.
  • Photonic Crystal Fibers-Design and Modelling: Photonic Crystal Fibers is a new class of optical fibers that offer greater design flexibility in comparison to conventional optical fibers. This lecture will allow students to understand various light guidance mechanism in PCFs, fabrication methods, modelling methods, and properties of PCFs such as endlessly single mode, large mode area, dispersion properties and applications of nonlinear PCFs.
