Univ. of Maryland SPIE Chapter hosts IONS-NA

By Debjani Roy

The first North-American meeting of the International OSA Network of Students will be held in September 2009 at the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. As the host, the UM SPIE-OSA Student Chapter is committed to take every measure towards meeting the mission of IONS organizing a dynamic platform for networking, and academic interaction. It will be an excellent opportunity, particularly for students whose research relates to the optics and photonics scientific field. The conference highlights include National laboratory tours to NASA, NIH, NIST and others; Congressional visits; student talks and poster presentations; two student socials; and a reception at the OSA headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.

A particular focus of the conference agenda is the professional development program. It will help students to hone their leadership skills, communication abilities, presentation methodology, and optics-community-building expertise. All attendees are encouraged join this scholastic interactive and learning session.

Coming in September, IONS-North America will provide all attendees with a socially and professionally fulfilling session. Please see the conference website for more information.
