Upcoming Student Events

Join SPIE Student Services in San Diego this summer for Optics + Photonics. This is our most student-focused conference and 2012 brings another year full of activities and opportunities. The week starts off on Saturday, 11 August with the Student Chapter Leadership Workshop (SCLW). This is the SCLW's 11th year and it is expected to be as large as ever with close to 200 students from SPIE chapters in over 30 countries.

The two-day workshop is open to all SPIE student chapter members and will address several chapter management issues as well as the basics of SPIE student membership benefits, such as student chapter funding. A panel discussion on career pathways and professional skills workshops starts the day off on Sunday, allowing students time to examine their career and focus on specific learning areas. These events lead into a lunchtime keynote talk.

On Sunday evening, SPIE Student Services will host the popular Optics Outreach Olympics-- an opportunity for chapters to showcase their outreach efforts and demonstrations. Chapters are invited to bring an optics demonstration or piece of optics curriculum to present. In addition to the student demonstrations, there will be additional competitions, refreshments, and the ever-popular student social. Admission is free for all.

The rest of the week is filled with additional student events including a networking lunch, a panel discussion on getting hired, free workshops for SPIE student members, receptions, poster sessions, and student chapter exhibits.
