Student Chapter Leadership Workshop

The largest ever Student Chapter Leadership Workshop was held last month in San Diego, CA. The 12th annual workshop at SPIE's Optics + Photonics conference continues to grow every year. This year SPIE Student Services was joined by 196 student chapter members plus 24 Early Career Professionals (ECP) and Student Chapter Leadership Workshop almuni facilitators from 37 different countries. The facilitators have proved to be an essential part of the Leadership Workshop and did an excellent job running small group discussions and exercises.

The lively Saturday session focused on leadership and cross-cultural communication. The lead facilitator, Mr. Jean AbiNader along with ECP and student facilitators led group activites that allowed students to focus on their own leadership traits and apply these to their chapters.

The workshop continued on Sunday with a career panel discussion featuring Early Career Professionals and a professional development workshop series from professionals, Michael Larson, Jean-luc Doumont, James Fisher and Ellen Hutchinson. Other popular student events were held throughout the week including, the Optics Outreach Games, Student Lunch with the Experts, Student Chapter Exhibit, and the Getting Hired Panel. We will be back in San Diego next year for SPIE Optics + Photonics, 16-21 August 2014! Questions? Contact  SPIE Student Services at students@spie.org
