Planning for a safe 2021 event in San Francisco

Keeping you safe at the 2021 event

SPIE remains committed to providing a forum for information sharing, collaboration, and advancing research. As we plan for an in-person meeting next year, SPIE and its venue partners are taking steps to ensure a safe environment.

We will continue to look for the best path forward and keep this page updated as the situation evolves.

SPIE Coronavirus Response

What are we doing to keep you safe?

Requiring mask or face coverings
Implementing strict sanitation measures throughout the event
Providing a low touch check-in process
Rearranging the exhibition floor plan, room arrangements, and walkways to respect physical distancing
Implementing room capacity rules and alternative options to view presentations when rooms reach capacity
Providing traffic flow indicators to help implement 6-foot personal space
Limiting materials such as giveaways, programs, and other items to reduce touching items; providing clean, safe ways to obtain those items when they are needed
Reminding everyone this is a “no handshake” event
Eliminating non-essential, close-contact special events

The Moscone Center has a double air filtration system: MERV 8 (pre-filter) and MERV 13 (bag filter). The air in meeting, common areas, and exhibit spaces is 100% replaced by fresh air 8 to 12 times per hour depending on which source is used.

The Moscone Center adheres to the recommendations set forth in the U.S. EPA's Emerging Pathogen Policy regarding cleaning disinfectants effective against the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
