SI111 Big Data IV: Learning, Analytics, and Application

Best Student Paper Award

The Best Student Paper Award will be selected from total papers accepted, presented, and published in this conference that had a student as a first author. The selection will be made by a designated award sub-committee, comprising three members of the conference program committee and/or chairs. All eligible papers will be evaluated for technical quality and merit. The criteria for evaluation will include: 1) innovation; 2) clarity and quality of the manuscript submitted for publication; and 3) the significance and impact of the work reported.

The Orbbec Awards are presented annually to participants of Dimensional Optical Metrology and Inspection for Practical Applications.

Papers will be selected from total papers accepted, presented, and published in this conference. A panel of experts will evaluate all the papers for technical quality and merit. The criteria for evaluation will include: 1) innovation; 2) clarity and quality of the manuscript submitted for publication and presented at the conference; and 3) the significance and impact of the work reported. Authors must make their oral presentation and submit their manuscript as scheduled. The Best Student Paper Award is open to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. A monetary prize of $1,500 will be awarded for each title recognition.

SI115 Multimodal Image Exploitation and Learning 2022

Best Paper Award

The award will be given to a paper for its originality and contributions to the Multimodal Image Exploitation and Learning field. The criteria for evaluation will include: 1) innovation; 2) clarity and quality of the manuscript submitted for publication significance and impact of the work reported.

To be considered for a Best Paper Award, authors must: 1) choose "Nominate for best paper award" as one of their paper topics, 2) present their oral presentation as scheduled, and 3) submit their manuscript on time.

To select the winners of the Best Paper Awards, the evaluation committee will go through a rigorous two-stage selection process. Conference Chairs will not participate in the evaluation process of the papers. The evaluation committee will make all decisions regarding the selection of the best paper.


SI118 Three-Dimensional Imaging, Visualization, and Display 2022

Fumio Okano Best 3D Paper Award

The Fumio Okano Best 3D Paper Prize is sponsored by NHK-ES, and is presented annually in memory of Dr. Fumio Okano for his enduring contributions to the field of 3D TV and Display.

Papers will be selected for the Best Paper Awards among the papers accepted, presented, and published in this conference. A panel of experts will evaluate all the papers for technical quality and merit. The criteria for evaluation will include: 1) innovation; 2) clarity and quality of the manuscript submitted for publication; and 3) the significance and impact of the work reported. In order to be considered for a Best Paper Award, authors must make their oral presentation and submit their manuscript as scheduled. All decisions regarding selection of the best papers will be made by an evaluation committee.

A monetary prize of $2,000 will be awarded for recognition.

SI200 Advanced Optics for Imaging Applications: UV through LWIR VII

Advanced Optics for Imaging Applications Best Student Award

Special emphasis will be placed on university research with additional consideration for student-conceived and -executed research. Presentations and manuscripts will be judged based on innovation, scientific merit, impact, and clarity. Qualifying papers must be authored (first author) by a full-time student and meet all submission deadlines. Please notify the conference chairs if you would like your qualifying paper to be considered for this competition.

A monetary prize of $500 will be awarded for recognition.

SI203 Infrared Imaging Systems: Design, Analysis, Modeling, and Testing XXXIII

Infrared Imaging Systems Most Downloaded Paper Award
Infrared Imaging Systems Best Presentation Award

Each year, this conference grants two awards. The Best Presentation Award is selected by the conference committee. The second is selected by the community, as the most downloaded paper in the three months following the conference. As such, this award represents the “hottest” topic of the year. Awardees will receive a SPIE citation and publication in the conference proceedings.

Radar Sensor Technology Best Student Award

Best Early Career Research Award: The first author of the best early career research paper and presentation combination will receive conference recognition in the form of a mailed certificate from SPIE. Early career is defined as individuals with 5 years or less of experience within the workforce after graduation.

Top Student Paper and Presentation Award: The first author of the top three best student research paper and presentation combination will receive conference recognition in the form of a mailed certificate from the SPIE.


SI206 Thermosense: Thermal Infrared Applications XLIV

Thermosense Best Student Paper Award

The Conference Chair, Co-Chair and Program Committee would like to recognize outstanding young researchers with a Best Student Paper Award. The award is open to any first-author student presenting orally at Thermosense. Prize: A certificate and a FLIR One Pro for iPhone to the student.

Passive and Active Millimeter-Wave Imaging Best Student Award

A new award for full-time student authors (undergraduate, masters and PhD). The winning paper will be selected based on 1) scientific quality and innovation of the work, 2) importance of the work to the field and 3) clarity and style of the combined paper, presentation, and poster submission.

A monetary prize of $500 will be awarded for recognition.

All accepted and presented full papers at Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Multi-Domain Operations Applications IV will be considered for for Best Conference Paper Award and Best Student Paper Award. Papers will be evaluated on originality, technical merit, and significance to MDO applications.

Autonomous Air and Ground Best Student Paper Award, First Place and Second Place

The conference chairs and program committee will recognize pioneers in the field with a Best Paper Award. Two candidates will be selected: Best Paper Award and a runner-up. This award is open to student and postdoctoral lead authors who present in this conference.

A monetary prize of $1,000 for first place and $500 for second place will be awarded for recognition.

Signal Processing, Sensor/Information Fusion and Target Recognition Best Student Award

The SPIE Signal Processing, Sensor/Information Fusion, and Target Recognition XXXI Best Student Paper Award is picked by a committee delegated by the program chairs of the conference. It recognizes the very best work appearing at the conference where the first author is a student at the time of submission.

Announcement of winners


The awards program will resume this year for the 2022 event. Winners will be honored at the upcoming symposium.

To be considered, the author must:

  • Submit a paper or poster at SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing symposium
  • Identify themselves as a student during abstract submission, if the award is a student award
  • Be the lead manuscript author and submit it to SPIE, according to author deadlines
  • Must attend the conference and present the paper or poster
