    Twelve SPIE innovators named 2018 Fellows of the National Academy of Inventors

    The National Academy of Inventors announced their 2018 Fellows on 11 December. Of the 148 leaders of academic invention that will be inducted in April as part of the Eighth Annual NAI Conference, twelve are Members of the Society, including eight SPIE Fellows and four SPIE Members.

    The NAI describes election to NAI Fellow status as the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and welfare of society. According to the NAI press release, NAI Fellows have generated more than 11,000 licensed technologies and companies and created more than 1.4 million jobs, with over $190 billion in revenue generated based on their discoveries.
