SPIE Fellow Shin-Tson Wu and Member Mercedeh Khajavikhan have each been honored with 2016 Founders Day Awards at CREOL, the College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida.
Wu, a Pegasus Professor of Optics and Photonics, recieved the Research Incentive Award (College Level) and Excellence in Research Award (College Level).
Khajavikhan, an assistant professor of Optics and Photonics, recieved the Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award (College Level).
Wu joined UCF in 2001, and has done extensive research in advanced displays, wearable displays, adaptive lenses, spatial light modulators, and biosensors. He is an author of seven books and more than 480 journal articles, and has obtained 83 U.S. patents. Among his many honors, Wu was the recipient of the 2008 SPIE G.G. Stokes Award.
Khajavikhan was honored for her extensive educational achievements in publications and presentations in the field of plasmonics and applied quantum optics. She has published and co-authored over 70 publications , and recently recieved the U.S. Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award.
Khajavikhan is an author ofthe SPIE Optics + Photonics 2016 Nanoscience + Engineering presentation "Nonlinear reversal of PT-symmetric phase transition in a system of coupled micro-ring cavities."
SPIE Fellows Eric Van Stryland and SPIE Past President MJ Soileau were presented with 30-year service awards during the Founders Day Celebration.
