Eli Peli receives the 2017 Charles F. Prentice Medal from the American Academy of Optometry

In a statement released 6 July, the American Academy of Optometry announced that SPIE Fellow Eli Peli, Senior Scientist and the Moakley Scholar in Aging Eye Research at Schepens Eye Research Institute, and Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, will receive the 2017 Charles F. Prentice Medal. Peli will be recognized at the Academy 2017 Chicago Awards Ceremony 13 October.
The Academy bestows the annual award to a distinguished scientist or clinician scientist in recognition of a career-long record of advancement of knowledge in vision science. The award is considered to be the most prestigious of the Academy’s awards for achievement in research. The recipient of the Prentice Medal presents a special lecture at the annual meeting of the Academy and submits a manuscript on that topic to Optometry and Vision Science.
Peli's principal research interests are image processing as it relates to visual function and clinical psychophysics in low vision rehabilitation, image understanding and evaluation of display-vision interaction. He has published more than 140 scientific papers, many in SPIE journals and proceedings.
Peli became a Fellow of the Society in 2007 in recognition of his distinguished career, groundbreaking research and his contributions to the Society. In addition to serving on program committees and as session chair, he has taught courses and presented at SPIE events.
