BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA -- The career center website SPIEWorks has been named among the Top 100 job boards and career portals by a leading employment-industry guide publisher.

SPIEWorks, an SPIE website, is among the "truly exceptional sites" recognized in the Top 100 listing from among the 10,000 employment sites in the Weddle's 2009/10 Guide, last month's announcement noted. In addition to publishing annual guides and directories, Weddle's does research, consulting, and training for recruiters.

SPIEWorks offers resume and job postings in optics and photonics as well as advice from technology leaders, industry experts, and recruiters. In addition, the site lists associations and societies serving the field, sources for grants and fellowships, articles on job search basics, and links other mentoring and job-finding resources.

Currently, more than 2,000 companies may be researched through links on the site. Typically, job postings number around 50, and resumes around 350.

"Our Top 100 employment sites are the elite of the job board industry," said Weddle's publisher Peter Weddle. "They have the strongest brands, the best services and the most distinguished track records of the sites we've seen on the web. The Top 100 selectees are truly in a class of their own."

The site selection methodology included a comprehensive review of information submitted by the sites describing their features, services, and fees as well as information provided by job seekers, employers, and recruiters who have used the site. In addition, each site was visited to assess its user experience and level of maintenance.

SPIE is the International Society for Optics and Photonics, founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies. Serving more than 188,000 constituents from 138 countries, the Society advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth. SPIE annually organizes and sponsors approximately 25 major technical forums, exhibitions, and education programs in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific, and supports scholarships, grants and other education programs.
