I pursued a career in science because I find the rules of nature beautiful and amazing; uncovering and applying them in normal life is an art. Now I work with customers to find creative ways to suit our technology best for their application goals. As a state-of-the-art high-power laser diode provider, the company I work for serves customers in precision metrology, medical equipment, quantum technology, space, and communication.
I believe the biggest obstacle can only be myself. I guess the only way to improve is to keep trying to know oneself better by trial and error, be honest and brave, and work very hard on getting what is right. One thing I have learned by trying to get to know myself better is not to worry when there is a problem. A problem to solve is yet another chance to improve!
I would tell young women and girls who are curious about a career in STEM to follow your interest. The difficulties you might face are no less challenging for your male colleagues: we can deal with them as well as they do.
