Fatima Maria Mitsue YasuokaWho or what inspired you to work in science/engineering?
I'm inspired by the fact that we can change the world with science.

What are the primary responsibilities of your current job?
I am responsible for the optical design of the equipment in our ophthalmological research area, which mainly covers ophthalmology, topography, image acquisition, microlenses, and wavefront. My research
areas include the development of optical systems for interdisciplinary applications; the development of instrumentation for ophthalmic optical design; new product development in interdisciplinary areas such as physics, ophthalmology, and engineering (electronic, computer, and mechanical); and product improvement.

Do you have advice for young women considering a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)?
It is a good opportunity to work with challenges, and working with optics can be very challenging.
