    Women in Optics Presentation and Reception at SPIE Optics + Photonics

    This evening event featured reports on International Year of Light activities from around the world including Laura Tobin (Ireland), Anne-Sophie Poulin-Girard (Canada), and Sona Hosseini (U.S.), among others. The panel was followed by a reception for attendees to meet the speakers and connect with peers. Light refreshments were be served.

    Women in the Optics and Photonics Workplace

    Leading women in optics and photonics participated in a round table discussion moderated by SPIE Marketing Analyst Adam Resnick, who utilized data from the SPIE Global Salary Survey Report. Questions included, but were not limited to:

    • What are the keys to personal and professional growth for women in optics and photonics?
    • Are the challenges faced by women in the field different from men?
    • What role do networking, mentoring, and community building play in the lives of women scientists and engineers?

    Coffee, mimosas, and snacks were served. The event was free and open to all registered attendees.

    Susan Tousi, VP of Engineering, Illumina (USA)
    Therese Huston, researcher on women and decision-making and cognitive psychologist at Seattle University (USA)
    Nicoletta Casanova, CEO of FEMTOprint (Switzerland)

    This early evening of networking and inspiration was a great success, thank you to all participants. The panel was followed by a reception, offering refreshments and the opportunity to meet the panelists and connect with peers.
