Paper Abstract
Currently, the most efficient technique to coarsely quantize the coefficients of redundant shift invariant signal
expansions is a recursive method called ΣΔ modulation. However, the error of approximation resulting from this
type of quantization is difficult to analyze rigorously. This is because a ΣΔ modulator is basically a nonlinear
feedback system. With constant inputs, it was previously shown that the state vectors of ΣΔ modulators of a
certain class appear to remain in a tile. In this paper, we show experimentally that this property remains valid
with a class of time-varying inputs. We explain the importance of the tiling property for the error analysis of
ΣΔ modulation.
