Profile Summary

Elton Soares de Lima Filho is natural from Várzea da Palma, MG, Brazil. He received the B.Sc., B.Ed. and M.Sc. degrees in physics from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Brazil, where his main research was on the development of the MAI - Metabolic Activity Interferometer, an instrument for quantitative measurements of bacterial growth of several samples in a completely automated fashion in real time.
He joined the Engineering Physics department, École Polytechnique de Montréal as a Ph.D. candidate in 2010, with main studies in Laser-induced cooling of solids. Within the Advanced Photonics Concepts Laboratory and FABULAS lab he designed and developed laser spectroscopic systems and instrumentation for thermal sensing in hash environments such as plasma and laser cooling experiments, and demonstrated optical refrigeration of solids in air for the first time.
His main research interests are applied physics, photonics, and scientific and biomedical instrumentation.
