SPIE Podcast: The Institute for Figuring

Margaret Wertheim is the co-founder and director of the Institute for Figuring (IFF). A science writer with 25 years experience communicating about science and mathematics, Wertheim began to see a disconnect in how science was being communicated to general audiences. This, among many other reasons, led her to form the IFF.

Wertheim was the Women In Optics guest speaker at SPIE Optics + Photonics in 2008. Wertheim spoke with SPIE about her work with the IFF, why she felt it was necessary to communicate about science and mathematics in a new way, and why she believes the IFF has been so successful.
