Video: Peter Leibinger, TRUMPF

The executive of Germany's industrial laser giant talks about the evolution of the company and its future directions.

Peter Leibinger is Managing Partner and President of the Laser and Electronics Division of TRUMPF GmbH + Co. KG (Ditzingen, Germany). Originally a machine-tool manufacturer, TRUMPF first got involved in lasers for cutting in the 1970s. At SPIE Photonics West 2010, Leibinger talked with SPIE Newsroom about TRUMPF's evolution into a major player in the laser business.

From 1997 to 1999, he was a development engineer at Ingersoll Milling Machine Company (Rockford, IL). From 1999 to 2003, he was chairman and CEO of TRUMPF, Inc., (Farmington, CT).

Since July 2003 he has been President of the Laser Technology Business Division and from 2003 to 2005 CEO, TRUMPF Laser GmbH + Co. KG. In November 2005, Leibinger was appointed Vice Chairman of the TRUMPF GmbH + Co. KG. He is responsible for Research and Development and for New Business Development.
