America's transportation infrastructure is aging quickly, with a crucial need for sensing and protection. David Krohn sees a crucial need for fiber optic sensors and laser sensing technologies in this area.

David Krohn, Managing Partner of Light Wave Venture Consulting LLC, has over 40 years experience in the photonics industry. Light Wave Venture is focused on developing photonics business opportunities in telecommunications, sensors, and biophotonics.

Krohn has assisted over 75 companies with activities in funding, planning, and management functions. He has been directly involved with founding four companies since 1994. He obtained his MS from Case Western Reserve University in 1967 and his PhD from Lehigh University in 1973.

In this interview, Krohn discusses the near-term and future applications of fiber optic and photonic sensors, and laser technologies, in the transportation industry from roads and bridges to planes to first responders. He also discusses the importance of knowing how to determine current market dynamics and where these devices into the market.

Krohn was interviewed at the SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing symposium in Orlando, FL in April, 2009.
