A video interview with Dave Holland: Commercializing CPVs

What lies ahead for the commercialization of concentrated photovoltaic systems?

12 September 2008

Delivering on the great opportunity that concentrated photovoltaics (CPV) presents requires successfully navigating the entire commercialization process.

Dave Holland, CEO of Solar Systems, Australia, discusses the lessons learned over the 18-year history of the company, and what hurdles still need to be overcome.

Holland also discusses the positives and negatives of CPVs, why they are now ripe for commercialization, what will be involved in the successful commercialization of CPVs, and how government, industry, and researchers will have to work together in order to bring CPVs to market and make them a commercial success.

Dave Holland was recruited by Solar Systems in 2000 with the responsibility of commercializing the company's results of 10 years of R&D in CPV systems. A year later, he was appointed CEO and a director of the company. Previously, Dave established a start up in the IT industry, and held sales and management roles with both Australian and international companies in the IT sector. He presented a plenary talk at SPIE Optics + Photonics (San Diego, August 2008) and was interviewed by Rich Donnelly for SPIE Newsroom.
