Rosetta is the third cornerstone mission of the European Space Agency's comprehensive Horizon 2000 Programme. It was designed to find and examine some of the original material of the solar system.

Artur Chmielewski of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA, discusses the Rosetta Mission, which in 2014 set down the Philae lander on comet "67P" while more than 400 million kilometers from Earth. This photonics-heavy mission wil be concluded by landing the Rosetta orbiter itself on the comet in 2016.

Artur B. Chmielewski is the U.S. Rosetta Project Manager. He has degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science from the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California.
