David Hagan receives the University of Central Florida Pegasus Professor Award 07 April 2017
SPIE Fellow David Hagan, associate dean for academic programs and professor in the College of Optics and Photonics, was one of five professors in the University of Central Florida (UCF) community to be awarded this year’s Pegasus Professor Award. Hagan and his fellow recipients were recognized 5 April as part of the 2017 Founders’ Day celebration. The award is the highest academic honor at the university. Each year, Pegasus Professors are chosen from senior members of the faculty who have been a professor at least five years and have achieved noteworthy research and/or creative activity of national and international impact. Hagan is a founding faculty member of the UCF Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL), and has taught and developed numerous courses at the Center. Most recently he has been leading the creation of a new bachelors of science degree in photonics science and engineering at CREOL, which is expected to soon receive accreditation by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology Inc. For his impressive contributions to optics education and for his achievements in non-linear optics, Professor Hagan was promoted to Fellow of the Society this year. He has been presenting at SPIE events for over 25 years and has published dozens of proceeding with SPIE. He presented most recently at Photonics West, is speaking at SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing this week, and will present again at SPIE Optics + Photonics in San Diego this August.
