Congressional Visits Day
2-3 April 2019

Join SPIE and the National Photonics Initiative (NPI) for Congressional Visits Day taking place in Washington, DC on 2-3 April 2019.

This is a great opportunity to advocate for science, optics, and photonics to your Congressional offices and to educate members of Congress about the work happening in their districts in optics and photonics. These meetings will focus on the NPI, R&D funding, and other relevant legislation. Specific topics for 2019 visits will be sent out to participants closer to the date.

NPI staff will arrange your Congressional meetings on the 3rd. Participants will do visits as a team with a team leader. The team leader will likely be a staff member from one of the sponsoring societies or an experienced participant. Training for the visits as well as a 'STEM on the Hill' reception are scheduled for 2 April.

To learn more about the training and the meetings, visit the NPI website.

National Photonics Initiative
As one of the five founding organizations, SPIE supports the work of the National Photonics Initiative. NPI brings together experts from industry, academia, and government to assemble recommendations that will help guide US funding and investment in five key photonics-driven fields: advanced manufacturing, communications and IT, defense and national security, energy, and health and medicine.
